How to study for a test:
I had to take a test last weekend, so I thought I would just post about what my test preparation is. I usually start studying a week or so before the date of the test. The first few days I don't study for too long, I usually just read and re-read any material that could possibly be on the test. The last few days I try to do any old homework problems, practice tests, quizzes, etc. This method has been working pretty well for me recently. All throughout high school and my first few years of college I was very bad at studying for tests. I would always study the night before, last minute, and try to learn everything at once. It was never a very effective way of doing things. It was a surprise to me how much of a difference study habits can make on your test scores.

  1. Are there any particular tools you use for tests that you need to increase your memorization for? For example, do you have anything that you use in the way of flashcards, or do you use any kind of total recall approach to information for the process of studying?

  3. When I study I try not to focus too much on memorization, I think memorizing facts is an unfortunate substitute of learning. I guess I do have sort of a basic total recall approach to my studying though. As classes progress I have folders that all work for each unit goes into, this way when a test is coming up its easy to find and study the material covered on the test.

  4. I also find using flash cards very useful. They exercise the immediate memory part of your brain. I especially use them when im studying something static like science or a foreign language.

  5. Hey! (I posted this on google + as well)

Check out this book - this guy aced most of his college classes after he came up with some techniques on studying, and you can google him as well - he's got some interesting ideas and tips! I haven't tried them out yet because it's a bit too scary because he has a lot of shortcuts but it may be worth a try. I am horrible when it comes to studying but I'm finishing my BA next quarter at the UW - but I may decide to get an MBA next so maybe I should improve my cramming - er, studying habits now!
